Thank you for showing an interest in my yoga website and teaching. I'm a student and teacher of yoga in Houston, Texas. I'm not currently teaching any public classes. However I do teach privates and frequently substitute teach. Please check out my schedule. I have enjoyed practicing yoga of many flavors for over 17 years and teaching for 7 years. I hope to share what I've learned through this website and the classes that I teach. I started practicing yoga as a young man who was was stiff, weak, and uncoordinated. Through consistent, intelligent, and enjoyable practice I have grown stronger, more flexible, and hopefully a little wiser. I hope that you give me the opportunity to share with you what I have learned.
Although I teach yoga, I'm first and foremost a student of yoga. I started practicing yoga in 1990 in an Integral (simple hatha) yoga class in college. I continued to study "traditional" hatha yoga with John Coon. After that I delved deeply into Iyengar yoga studying with Constance Braden and George Purvis. I then became fascinated with Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and attended many workshops with greats like David Swenson, Lino Miele, Richard Freeman, and Manju Jois. After injuring my shoulder I stopped practicing and teaching Ashtanga yoga. I then studied Anusara yoga with John Friend and practiced Bikram Yoga.
I used to teach at yourbodycenter, YogaBody, and at the downtown YMCA. I'm on the Board of Directors of The Yoga Association of Houston where I primarily help by managing the web page.
I'm currently trying to balance my life in such a way that I have time to spend time with my family (girlfriend and her daughter), walk my dogs, pet my cats, practice tai chi, practice yoga, meditate, sleep, eat, and do computer work. It's a work in progress. I wish you the best on your path.
God bless and namaste,
Andrew Bartelt
